I am always looking for ways to manage my most precious commodity, Time. So my insight for the week is self-management. Getting out of my own way! Here are some tips that I have added to my time management course:

1.) Put first things first (Prioritize)

2.) Do one thing at a time

3.) Break the large jobs down into smaller parts completing one step at a time. This stops the larger jobs from seeming overwhelming.

4.) Make your system the slave, don’t be a slave to your system

5.) Use actual lists (don’t make the brain work when it does not have to)

6.) Practice intensive concentration, so you can call on the brain as needed

The self-perception people have when they make a mistake is not usually positive. This leads to the natural human knee-jerk response of hiding a mistake, not acknowledging the error or taking responsibility for it.

We cannot learn if we cannot acknowledge mistake. We would never have learned to walk, to read and write or to do much of anything if we did not trip along the way. The human condition is made up of Trial and Error scenarios. Many of the obstacles holding us back involves the fear of mistake or misstep.

So, how do we change the self-perception of mistake to an honorable perception?

Knowledge and Authority are of course great assets to Leadership, but they are not everything. A leader does not say “hey, you-get going”, a leader says “let’s go!” Excellent real estate professionals assume they are working with their clients, not telling their clients what to do. Assuming a partnership or a team attitude when working with people creates leaders in the industry. There is humility of service in this approach. Humility is not letting people walk all over you; it is a realization of your role in the partnership. Knowledge and authority will go so far and then collaboration must work.

We have to believe and trust in the people we accept as clients. This brings out the best in people and elevates them to your professional expectations. When
